President’s Report
Greetings to all.  I hope you have enjoyed your summer of activities, vacations, travel, family reunions, and cycling.  The summer passed quickly and fall is upon us.  Fall is a great time of the year to get out and ride your bicycle.  There are many excellent rides scheduled for fall.  Attend a riding event and bring a friend.

One of the major decisions facing the Lima Cycling Club this fall is whether the club should stay a member of Youth Hostelling Organization or not.  A decision will be made soon. If you have any thoughts or feelings pertaining to this decision, or any ideas that you would like to share on how to help the cycling club reach a larger audience and participants, please contact me at dmessner@woh.rr.com.

Check the Lima Roadrunners website for any changes of events or updates during the fall cycling and hiking schedule limaroadrunners.com.  I want to thank everyone for their support for MDMC (see report) the weekly rides, and the sponsoring of the club events.
Sincerely,  Daniel Messner

MDMC .

Our 10th annual MDMC was held on Saturday June 28.  A special thank you to Dr. Gene Wright for his tireless work as the event coordinator.  Also, I want to thank all the volunteers who helped with the food stops, SAG duty, registration, and equipment.  The road markings were superb thanks to Neal Kingsbery, who I must specially mention by name.  Please take the opportunity to thank the sponsors for the T-shirts at every opportunity, as you do business with them or have contact with them. (Sponsors: Casa Chic; Clapper Electric, Dr. Jeff Godwin, Randall Bearings, Tuttle Construction, Lima Superior Credit Union, Shawnee Alliance Church, Carter Insurance, Tom Ahl Dealerships, Husky Lima Refinery, First Federal Bank, Elton Hammond.

Membership Renewal with Hostelling International-American Youth Hostels (AYH).

Family Sunday Event.

A family cycling event is planned for Sunday, September 21 and October 12 at 2:00pm.  The ride will begin at Bresler Reservoir to Fort Amanda Park.  It will be at a slow pace for families.  This is a great opportunity to invite your friends and neighbors who have an interest in beginning cycling and seeing how much fun it can be.  Start thinking right away who you can invite.  Daniel Messner will be leading and if you have any questions please contact him dmessner@woh.rr.com

 Thursday evening Rides.

Thursday night rides will be held in September leaving from Shawnee High School at 6:00 pm.

Paceline Thoughts:

§     When the lead rider comes off the front, he/she should soft-pedal as soon as he/she moves over.  When the tail end of the line appears next to you, blend into it smoothly

§     When you're second in line, and it's time for you to take the front, do not accelerate. Maintain a constant speed and gradually increase the speed if so desired to maintain the group.

§     The lead rider should keep a steady pace without too much slowing down or speeding up.

§     All riders should pay close attention to the riders in front and in back of them.

§     Speak up and inform those around you what is occurring.

§     All riders should watch for hazards and call out or motion to the rest of the group when helpful.

§     Stay off the aerobars when not in the front of the line.
